Windy Hills Helps Injured Veterans Get Back In the Game
Midlothian October 21st: Janet Phillips, the LPGA/PGA co-owner and Head Golf Pro of Windy Hill Sports Complex on Midlothian Boulevard in Midlothian has joined with the McGuire Veteran’s Hospital to provide adaptive golf lessons. This worthy project is supported by volunteers from local veterans’ organizations. The Adaptive Golf for Injured Veterans Program started on October 20th for twice weekly sessions over a four-week period. Janet Phillips provides one-hour golf lessons, a bucket of balls and lunch for a very modest fee.The program is designed to improve the mental, social, physical, and emotional well being of veterans through golf. Windy Hills offers an accessible facility with a knowledgeable instructor in adapting the golf lessons to the injuries of the veterans. Veterans provide emotional support to and encourage a positive outlook for the injured vets and assist the instructor.
This adaptive golf program is yet another example of how recreational therapy helps injured veterans get back into the game of life.
